A Primer On Primers

In the world of Spray-painting, preparation (industry speak : prep) is important. The surface of the material that is to be painted needs to be ready and willing to accept the paint and lacquer. Now one of the key item that is used are Primers.
Primers are sometimes left out during the spray-painting process because it's an extra step which does not really reflect visually on the finished product. They are important as they ensure proper adhesion and durability.
Educate yourself and be aware of this when sending your items to get painted. At Spraysmiths, we do not like cutting corners especially when it comes to prep work.
Types of Primers
Primer FILLER
Fills in minor imperfections in the surface and improves top coat adhesion and appearance.
ETCH Primer
Normally used on aluminium or galvanised steel to promote adhesion. They can also be used to improve adhesion to smooth steel.
Primer SURFACER
Designed to improve adhesion of the final topcoat and enhance the finish color
